When Daniel DuVal arrived in Virginia he is said to have brought with him a gold tureen and six matching goblets which was believed to have belonged to Abbe DuVal a Huguenot Divine in France. In her book "The DuVals of Virginia" by Bessie Grabowski published in 1931, the tureen and goblet are described as follows. "It had surmounting the top a tuft of lillies and thorns, with the motto lilia inter Pinas, and also bore the coat-of-arms. It was kept in a red morocco case with a red velvet lining.
When last heard of it it was in the possession of one James Price, a lawyer, who went to Ohio to live, and who was the great-grandson of Major William DuVal of Richmond, but all trace of it has been lost." Also mentioned in the Grabowski book is "a small, thin, and very unusual family Bible owned by one of the family in Colorado, and which is said to have been brought from France in the covering of a chair." If anyone has ANY idea where the descendants of Daniel DuVal might search for these items please e-mail Judy Hamby or Patricia Duval Koenig.
